Marjorie Taylor Greene pulls trigger on effort to oust Johnson from speakership

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) triggered her motion to vacate House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Wednesday, starting the clock for leadership to bring the measure to the floor.

Greene filed her motion as privileged, putting a notice on the legislation that would require GOP leaders to bring it to the floor within two legislative days. It’s unclear when leadership will call a vote, as lawmakers are scheduled to adjourn for recess for the rest of the weekend and are not slated to return until Tuesday.

Greene initially filed her motion to vacate in late March, holding the measure over Johnson’s head as he looks to navigate his conference through votes on key legislation. Greene followed through with that threat last week, telling reporters last week she would “absolutely” be putting the measure on the floor sometime
