Arrests of anti-Israel protesters on college campuses top over 1,500

Since pro-Palestinian protests first erupted on Columbia University’s campus a little over two weeks ago, more than 1,500 protesters on college campuses across the country have been arrested. Officers have made arrests on more than 30 different campuses across at least 23 different states.

At the epicenter of the civil unrest is Columbia University, where arrests were first made by officers on April 18. More than 100 student protesters were arrested and cleared from the encampments at the request of university president Nemat Shafik, who is facing calls to resign.

Two days ago, NYPD officers arrested an additional 109 protesters who seized control of Hamilton Hall on Columbia’s campus. That same day, officers arrested 173 protesters at the neighboring City College of New York. In total, 400 protesters were arrested across the country on April 30. To date, 11
