What to know about the planes flying over the National Mall this weekend

About 60 planes will fly over the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Saturday to celebrate aviation history in the United States. 

The National Celebration of General Aviation D.C. Flyover will occur around 12 p.m. ET on Saturday. Some planes that will fly over the Mall date back to 1939. 

“We will tell the story of what general aviation does for this great country,” Mike Ginter of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association said.

Planes will take off from Frederick Municipal Airport in Virginia late Saturday morning. Then, they will fly along the Potomac River and turn east over the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument
