Pro-Palestinian protesters break through barriers trying to reach star-studded Met Gala in New York City

Pro-Palestinian protesters have broken down barricades in attempts to reach the Met Gala, an annual event in New York City hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The “Citywide Day of Rage for Gaza” was scheduled to begin at Hunter College before moving north toward the Met. The Met Gala is hosted each year on the first Monday of May, and A-list celebrities wear extravagant outfits as a fundraiser for the Met’s Costume Institute.

Some protesters were seen breaking through barricades the police had established on Fifth Avenue, the street where the museum is located. The New York City Police Department was seen making arrests shortly after. Protesters reportedly walked through Central Park in order to avoid road closures surrounding the Met.
