Senate confirms former Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney to Biden administration post

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed former Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY) to serve as U.S. representative to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Maloney’s nomination, which would give him an ambassador title, passed by a 63-31 margin. President Joe Biden nominated Maloney, who lost his swing-district seat to Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) in 2022 while serving as chairman of House Democrats’ campaign arm, to lead the OECD last May. 

His nomination was nearly put in jeopardy last month when Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) threatened to vote against his confirmation over his role as an adviser to Coinbase, the nation’s largest cryptocurrency exchange. 

Maloney, who served six terms in the House and is a close ally of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA),
