State of the Union 2024: Six Supreme Court justices attend Biden’s address

Supreme Court justices arrived at the House for Presiden Joe Biden’s State of the Union address with some members declining to applaud their arrival.

Six of the nine justices are in attendance. They are evenly split representing conservatives and liberals.

Leading the conservatives is Chief Justice John Roberts, followed by Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. All three liberal justices, Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Ketanji Brown Jackson, are in attendance.

Jackson received loud cheers when she entered the room, but notably, female Democratic lawmakers wearing white stayed silent and did not applaud the justices.

A topic brought up in Biden’s address tonight is the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, as well as the Alabama Supreme Court ruling regarding in vitro fertilization.
