Republican National Committee resolution to forbid paying Trump’s legal bills ‘dead’

The door is open for the Republican National Committee to pay former President Donald Trump’s legal bills after resolutions from a committee member failed to gain support.

Henry Barbour, a national committeeman from Mississippi, proposed two resolutions: One would have banned the RNC from covering Trump’s legal bills, and the other would have prevented the RNC and its leadership from holding up Trump as the nominee until he secured the requisite 1,215 delegates. But the legal fee resolution will not come to a vote. “It’s dead,” Barbour told Politico.

The RNC meets in Houston on Friday to elect a new chairperson after current Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel announced she would resign. But Barbour’s resolutions will not be voted upon, and the distance between Trump and the committee that Barbour and other conservatives desired will likely not come to pass.
