How Adam Schiff may benefit from feud with Trump in California Senate race

Former President Donald Trump may be the decisive factor in determining who wins the deep-blue California Senate seat.

Schiff, 63, emerged during the Trump administration as one of the former president’s fiercest critics, spearheading the first impeachment effort and serving on the Jan. 6 committee. Now, his high-profile fight with Trump looks poised to hand him a victory in California’s Tuesday primary, effectively handing him the state’s Senate seat vacated by former Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).

Schiff’s two major opponents are Reps. Katie Porter (D-CA) and Barbara Lee (D-CA), both of whom were expected to lead the race due to being women, and Lee being black. Despite this, Schiff, a white man, may emerge triumphant, largely due to the public resurgence of Trump.
