Twelve gunmen killed by Mexican soldiers miles from Texas border

Mexican soldiers killed 12 gunmen in a shootout near the U.S.-Mexico border, authorities said Monday.

A security spokesperson for the Mexican state of Tamaulipas explained that members of the Secretariat of National Defense were attacked by armed civilians in Miguel Aleman, a township across the border from Roma, Texas.

The spokesperson said in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that the 12 gunmen were killed and that 12 long guns with ammunition were seized by authorities.

Mexican government sources told the AFP that drug cartel members were among those killed by soldiers, also saying the military used drones and a helicopter in the shootout.
