Washington Examiner’s Tiana Lowe Doescher argues Mayorkas refused to enforce the law ‘as written’

The Washington Examiner’s Tiana Lowe Doescher argued that the “unprecedented” impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stems from his refusal to enforce the law “as written.”

Doescher’s assessment comes after the House of Representatives voted narrowly for Mayorkas’s impeachment on Tuesday night by a margin of 214-213. Doescher, a commentary writer for the Washington Examiner, explained the rules are clear for when a government official can be impeached, with refusal to enforce the law as passed by Congress being core to this.

“The issue isn’t that Mayorkas has just implemented awful policy,” Doescher said on Fox Business’s Mornings with Maria. “Overturning Remain in Mexico? Awful. Overturning the ‘safe third country’ deals that President Trump passed? Awful. The real issue is that he has refused to enforce the law as written.”
