Charlotte shooting: Multiple law enforcement officers hit and hospitalized in North Carolina city

Several law enforcement officers were wounded after being shot at in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday, law enforcement said.

Officers in the U.S. Marshals task force in the city were conducting an investigation in the 5000 block of Galway Drive in East Charlotte when two suspects fired on them, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said. The officers have been transported to the hospital.

The officers were trying to serve a warrant in the area when the shots were fired. A deputy U.S. marshal who was struck by gunfire has died, according to local outlet WSOC. At least one of the suspects is believed to be wounded.
