Women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines spoke out against University of South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley, calling her a “sellout” over her support for transgender athletes.
Staley made her comment during a press conference on Saturday, during which she said she was “of the belief” that an athlete who considers themselves to be a woman should be allowed to play. Gaines commended Staley for her coaching record, including winning two championships, but was much more critical of her answer to the press question.
“In three years at South Carolina, she’s won two championships,” Gaines said on Fox News’s Fox and Friends. “I think her record is 109-3. That’s unprecedented, so clearly she’s great at what she does, and she’s developed many incredible athletes whom I admire, but she’s either proving herself, to your point, to be entirely incompetent
