A federal jury found Todd Chrisley liable for slander and libel against a Georgia Department of Revenue agent Thursday.
Chrisley is a year into his 10-year prison sentence following his previous conviction of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and tax fraud. His wife, Julie, is also in prison for the same conviction, in addition to charges of wire fraud and obstruction of justice. Amid their legal troubles, Todd Chrisley began posting about DOR investigator Amy Doherty-Heinze on social media, which the jury chalked up to libel.
The jury ordered Chrisley to pay Doherty-Heinze $350,000 in compensatory damages plus $170,000 in punitive damages, and attorney’s fees which added up to $755,000. Despite his previous convictions, as this case happened in civil court, this is the first fine issued to Chrisley.
