Biden speaks to New York City mayor after shooting death of police officer

President Joe Biden has offered his condolences to New York City Mayor Eric Adams after police officer Jonathan Diller was shot to death during a traffic stop in Queens, according to the White House.

Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed a call between Biden and Adams on Thursday, during which the president conveyed that Adams, New York City, and the New York Police Department had his “full support.” Jean-Pierre added that she did not have any “private communications” to share regarding Diller’s family “at this time.”

“Our hearts go out, obviously, to the officer’s family and the broader NYPD family, who have tragically lost one of their own,” Jean-Pierre told reporters aboard Air Force One as the president travels to New York City. “The president grieves for them and honors their sacrifice.”
