NBCUniversal settles in Back to the Future DeLorean trademark battle 

A long-standing trademark battle surrounding NBCUniversal’s continued use of the DeLorean car in Back to the Future merchandise and tie-ups has been settled in federal court.

NBCUniversal and DeLorean Motor Co. informed the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California that a complete and total resolution had been reached regarding the case, according to a report.

The exact details of the settlement have not been confirmed.

The DeLorean DMC-12 became iconic after it served as Emmett “Doc” Brown’s time machine in the 1985 film Back to the Future and sent Marty McFly back to 1955.

Initially, Universal and Amblin Entertain had an agreement with John DeLorean that they could use the vehicle for “merchandising and commercial tie-ups” in return for 5% of the revenue earned by those products, the report noted.
