Georgia teenagers who shot at officer during escape charged with assault: Police

Two teenage boys who escaped from police while being transported to a court case now face new charges after they allegedly stole an officer’s pistol, hit him with it, and fired several rounds at him.

The 14-year-old and 15-year-old boys have both been charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer with a firearm, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. They have been charged as adults.

The teenagers reportedly escaped from police on Thursday while en route to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Augusta. According to officials, the boys managed to attack the deputy transporting them, stealing his .45-caliber handgun, firing three rounds in his direction, and escaping into the woods.
