White House asks for privacy for Princess Kate after ‘terrible’ cancer diagnosis

The White House has asked for privacy on behalf of British Prince William and his wife Catherine after the Princess of Wales announced her cancer diagnosis in a prerecorded video.

“All of us just heard the terrible news. Our thoughts are with the Duchess of Cambridge and her family members and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Friday, using Catherine’s other title. “It’s important that we respect her privacy.”

Jean-Pierre said she had no discussions between President Joe Biden and the United Kingdom‘s royal family to read out.
