Ben & Jerry’s parent company exiting ice cream business, cutting 7,500 jobs globally

Unilever is ditching the rocky road of selling ice cream and spinning off its ice cream brands, including Ben & Jerry’s and Magnum.

The British consumer goods company explained that this decision to leave the ice cream business is part of Unilever’s Growth Action Plan announced last year, which aims to have the company focus on fewer businesses to provide more quality products. As such, the ice cream businesses affected by this decision will include Ben & Jerry’s, Magnum, Cornetto, and Wall’s.

“Simplifying our portfolio and driving greater productivity will allow us to further unlock the potential of this business, supporting our ambition to position Unilever as a world-leading consumer goods company delivering strong, sustainable growth and enhanced profitability,” Unilever CEO Hein Schumacher said.

Unilever’s separation from these companies is expected to be complete by the end of 2025.
