Barack Obama makes surprise appearance at Downing Street to meet with Rishi Sunak

Former President Barack Obama made an unannounced appearance in London at No. 10 Downing St. on Monday for an “informal courtesy drop-in” with U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The former president waved to the crowd as he approached No. 10 Downing St. midday but did not respond to questions about why he was visiting.

He met privately with Sunak for roughly an hour, and the pair reportedly talked about a range of topics, including artificial intelligence.

“President Obama’s team made contact and obviously the prime minister was very happy to to meet with him and discuss the work of the Obama Foundation,” a Downing Street spokesperson told the Independent.

Obama was seen leaving the building with U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom Jane Hartley. Reporters asked Obama about the state of democracy in Russia.
