Toronto police encourage people to leave keys for thieves to steal cars

Canadians are facing an escalating car theft problem that is costing insurers a record $1.2 billion a year.

A car is stolen every six minutes in Canada, according to a 2023 report by the Canadian Finance and Leasing Association. The Toronto Police Service is now advising residents to leave their car keys at their home’s front door for thieves.

Canadian police advise home owners to leave their car fobs outside so armed thieves can steal them more easily without confronting home owners.
