New Orleans police battling drug-fueled rats in headquarters

Officers with the New Orleans Police Department are facing down drug-fueled rats after the vermin broke into the evidence room of their deteriorating headquarters.

“The rats are eating our marijuana,” NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick informed members of the City Council’s Criminal Justice Committee on Monday, according to a report. “They’re all high.”

The rats have not only managed to infest the South Broad Street facility, where they have littered areas and desks with feces, but they have also been enjoying a healthy supply of narcotics from the evidence room, according to Kirkpatrick.

“It is not just at police headquarters. It is all the districts. The uncleanliness is off the charts,” she said. “The janitorial cleaning [team] deserves an award trying to clean what is uncleanable.”
