San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin to require players to stand on field for anthem

San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin said he would require everyone in the dugout to stand on the field while the national anthem is playing.

Melvin is new in San Francisco, and the move regarding “The Star-Spangled Banner” marks a contrast with the policies of former manager Gabe Kapler, according to a report.

Kapler stopped taking the field for the anthem following the 2022 mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

However, the new policy has no political motivation, Melvin said.

“Look, we’re a new team here. We got some good players here,” he said. “It’s more about letting the other side know that we’re ready to play. I want guys out here ready to go. There’s a personality to that.”
