Social Security update: April direct payment worth $943 goes out in 29 days

April’s Supplemental Security Income payment, worth up to $943 for individual filers, will go out to millions of beneficiaries in a little more than four weeks.

The next installment will go out on April 1 to people who struggle with a serious debilitating disability and have a limited income, according to the Social Security Administration.

To qualify for the SSI payments, a person needs to be 65 or older, at least partially blind, or have a “physical or mental condition(s) that seriously limits their daily activities for a period of 12 months or more, or may be expected to result in death.”

The maximum amount filers can get depends on the way they apply for the payment. There are three categories for beneficiaries to file under: individual, joint, or essential person.
