White House: Trump is ‘repugnant’ for comparing mug shot to ‘painful history’ of black America

The White House heartily criticized former President Donald Trump Tuesday for comparing his own legal woes to the plight of black Americans.

Trump recently claimed that his dozens of indictments, and mug shot in particular, have helped him earn support among black voters.

“I think that’s why the black people are so much on my side now. Because they see what’s happening to me happens to them. Does that make sense?” the former president claimed in South Carolina just before the 2024 Republican presidential primary. “The mug shot. We’ve all seen the mug shot, and you know who embraced it more than anyone else? The black population. It’s incredible.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre fielded a question on the subject during Tuesday’s press briefing and said that she had personally spoken to President Joe Biden about the matter.
