FromSoftware's acclaimed action RPG is coming to Nintendo's next console, and players can lock in a preorder now, though they'll have to wait longer to find out when they can actually play it.
The Tarnished Edition for Switch 2 is priced at $79.99 and bundles the full base game with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. The package also includes two new starting classes (Heavy Knight and Knight of Ides), four fresh armor sets, and three customization options for the player's spectral steed, Torrent.
What's missing from the announcement is any concrete launch window. Amazon currently lists a December 31, 2026 release date, a placeholder that retailers typically use for preorders without confirmed ship dates.
The $80 price aligns with what FromSoftware already charges for the combined base game and expansion across other platforms. The new content bundled with the Tarnished Edition will eventually reach PC and consoles as well, though FromSoftware hasn't specified whether that content will arrive as a free update or paid DLC.
The Switch 2 version comes on a game-key card rather than a physical cartridge, a detail that could matter for players concerned about storage or portability.
Elden Ring's original 2022 release earned near-universal praise, and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion continued that momentum. The game and its DLC both scored major award nominations, setting a high bar for ports and re-releases.
Whether that pedigree justifies the premium price tag on hardware typically less powerful than current-generation consoles remains an open question among players. The Switch 2 will be Nintendo's more capable device, but performance comparisons to a PS5 Pro could reveal tradeoffs in frame rate or visual fidelity.
For now, the preorder price is locked in through Amazon's price guarantee, meaning early buyers won't pay more if the cost drops between now and whenever the game ships.
