Crimson Desert Reaches 4 Million Sales Two Weeks After Launch, Continues Strong Momentum

Pearl Abyss' open world action game Crimson Desert has sold 4 million copies in just over two weeks, sustaining the remarkable pace it set during its March 19 launch.

The game shipped 2 million copies on day one, then doubled that to 4 million within 16 days. According to Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young, the title is already tracking toward 5 million sales.

The early success marks a significant turnaround for Crimson Desert, which faced mixed reception on Steam at launch. Player sentiment has swung decisively in the game's favor following a series of substantial patches. Pearl Abyss released updates that addressed major pain points, including the addition of a storage box and new summonable mounts.

The improvement is reflected in Steam's user review system, which upgraded Crimson Desert from mixed to very positive ratings. Meanwhile, concurrent player counts have climbed rather than stabilized, with Steam tracking 276,261 simultaneous players on a recent Sunday. The actual peak concurrency across all platforms—PlayStation and Xbox included—is undoubtedly higher, since Sony and Microsoft do not publicly release their player numbers.

Pearl Abyss invested heavily in the project. Korean business media reported the studio spent seven years developing Crimson Desert with a budget of roughly 200 billion won, equivalent to approximately $133 million.

What's Next for Crimson Desert

The studio appears committed to ongoing support. When asked about future content, CEO Jin-young indicated there are no concrete plans for DLC but did not rule it out entirely. He expressed skepticism about official mod support, though the possibility remains under consideration.

One confirmed area of exploration is a Nintendo Switch 2 version. The company is actively investigating bringing Crimson Desert to Nintendo's next-generation handheld platform, which could further expand its reach.

In a statement shared on social media, Pearl Abyss thanked players for their support, referencing the community by the in-game term "Greymanes." The response from early adopters suggests the studio's post-launch commitment to improvement has resonated with its audience.
