Dark Horse Books is preparing to release a comprehensive art book devoted to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, capitalizing on the publisher's track record with the franchise. The 472-page hardcover, titled The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom—Secrets of the Zonai, launches October 20, 2026.
The book measures 9 by 12 inches and combines promotional artwork, developmental materials, and lore exploration. Its opening section features 50 pages of character designs and promotional illustrations. The middle section spans nearly 300 pages of concept sketches, development notes, storyboards, and behind-the-scenes commentary from the creation process. The final 80-plus pages focus on the history and mythology of Hyrule leading into the game's narrative.
Dark Horse secured interviews with three key figures from the game's production: Producer Eiji Aonuma, Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, and Art Director Satoru Takizawa. Their insights are woven throughout the volume.
The publisher is offering two editions. The standard hardcover carries a $59.99 price tag, while a deluxe "Hero's Edition" priced at $119.99 includes a slipcase, world map, and art print. Both versions are available for preorder through Amazon and Dark Horse Direct.
Dark Horse's Zelda reference books, including Hyrule Historia, have become bestsellers for the publisher. The new volume aims to appeal to longtime series fans seeking deeper context about both the game's development and its fictional world.
