Tesla recalls over 3,800 Cybertrucks over ‘unintentional acceleration’ concern

Tesla announced its most recent recall, this time affecting 3,878 Cybertrucks due to the potential of its accelerator pedal becoming dislodged.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a notice to the company that every Cybertruck manufactured between Nov. 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024, is at an increased “risk of a collision” due to the pedal that could become trapped and cause unintentional acceleration. There are no reported crashes explicitly linked to this problem.

“An unapproved change introduced lubricant (soap) to aid in the component assembly of the pad onto the accelerator pedal. Residual lubricant reduced the retention of the pad to the pedal,” the NHTSA explained in its notice.

A Cybertruck customer brought the issue to Tesla’s attention at the end of March, which was followed by a second customer’s claim.
