Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas misses oral arguments

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was absent from the Supreme Court‘s oral arguments on Monday.

A reason for his absence was not given, which is unusual. Typically, when a justice is absent, a reason is given, including for reasons related to health problems.

Chief Justice John Roberts said that while Thomas was not present, he would “participate fully” in the two cases being argued based on court transcripts and briefings.

The high court has a 6-3 Republican-appointed majority. Thomas is the oldest of the nine justices.
