Rust armorer in Alec Baldwin film sentenced to 18 months in prison

The armorer for the film Rust has been sentenced to 18 months in prison, about two and a half years after a fatal shooting occurred on the film’s set.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, 27, had “repeatedly” failed to maintain proper firearm safety, which led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, prosecutors claimed in the case. The 2021 shooting occurred when actor Alec Baldwin was holding a .45 Colt caliber F.lli Pietta single-action revolver during a rehearsal on set when the gun fired and hit Hutchins in the chest.

“You alone turned a safe weapon into a lethal weapon,” Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer said.
