Nancy Pelosi nominates DC chef José Andrés and World Central Kitchen for Nobel Peace Prize

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi nominated Washington-based chef José Andrés and the World Central Kitchen, the non-governmental organization he founded, for a Nobel Peace Prize on Wednesday, claiming that both are “heroes for humanity.”

Pelosi, along with Reps. Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) highlighted the impact of Andrés’s NGO, which has served more than 350 million meals worldwide, and urged the Norwegian Nobel Committee to present him with the award.

“During many dark and difficult times, the impact of Chef Andrés and the World Central Kitchen has been extraordinary,” Pelosi wrote in the letter. “All are in awe of how, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Chef Andrés quickly marshaled the effort to provide 40 million meals to feed the hungry across the world.”
