Kristi Noem requests joint session to brief state legislature on ‘war zone’ at southern border

Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) has requested the South Dakota legislature to host a joint session with her so she can brief state lawmakers about the “war zone” taking place along the U.S. southern border.

Noem’s request for the session asked that it be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. CST. During the session, Noem aims to also explain potential ways South Dakota will respond to the border crisis.

“Thank you for your consideration,” Noem’s letter read. “I look forward to working with you to keep South Dakotans, Texans, and all Americans safe.”

The request by Noem comes after she said she would be willing to send the South Dakota National Guard to the Texas border. The governor said such a move would be to assist Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) as he feuds with the Biden administration over keeping illegal immigrants out of the country.
