Nancy Mace’s former chief files paperwork to run against her

Rep. Nancy Mace‘s (R-SC) former chief of staff filed paperwork to run against her in the 2024 elections on Friday.

Dan Hanlon, who recently departed from Mace’s office, filed with the Federal Election Commission to run in the GOP primary in South Carolina‘s 1st Congressional District, according to FEC records.

Hanlon worked with Mace since she started in Congress in January 2023. The South Carolina congresswoman lost three of her senior staffers in one week in December, with Hanlon being fired on Dec. 1. Her deputy chief of staff, Richard Chalkey, resigned, and her legislative director, Randal Meyer, resigned effective the end of December.

While no reason was given for Hanlon’s firing, accusations of a toxic work environment have been leveled against Mace.
