“From a very young age, I saw myself as a fighter, and that’s what led me to the City Council,” Hanif, chairwoman of the council’s committee on immigration and co-chairwoman of its progressive caucus, told both the press and onlookers outside a Midtown Manhattan church.
Fighters need to “continue the legacy of a city that continues to be a place where refugees will migrate to,” the equity-driven councilwoman said.
