Walmart to boost pay and redesign bonuses for managers

Walmart announced Thursday that a boost in base pay and redesign of bonuses are coming for managers to emphasize profits.

Slated to take effect Feb. 1, the new moves arrive as one of the nation’s most significant private employers works to keep qualified managers and inspire hourly workers to reach new levels via a path of mobility, according to a report.

Close to 75% of all Walmart store managers began as hourly wage earners, according to the company.

Beginning next month, the preliminary base wage for store managers will increase from $65,000-$170,000 to $90,000-$170,000, raising the average base pay from $117,000 to $128,000, Cedric Clark, executive vice president of store operations at Walmart’s domestic division, said.

Average wages for hourly workers are also set to increase from $17.50 to $18, the report noted.
