Chuck Grassley, 90, hospitalized for an infection and will miss Senate votes

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has been hospitalized with an infection and will miss Tuesday evening votes, his office announced. 

Grassley, 90, is “receiving antibiotic infusions at an area hospital to treat an infection,” his office said in a statement. “He is in good spirits and will return to work as soon as possible following doctors’ orders.”

More information on the Iowa senator’s condition was not immediately provided, nor was a time frame for his return to the Senate floor. Grassley is the oldest member of the upper chamber and his state hosted the Iowa caucuses Monday evening.

Grassley’s news comes one day after Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) announced that he will remain home in Wyoming this week after undergoing abdominal surgery over the weekend.
