Biden puts White House lawyers on edge with private tours for big donors

The White House Counsel office advised President Joe Biden to cease giving donors tours of the Oval Office.

Biden has held around a half-dozen meetings with big donors, in groups ranging from four to eight people at a time, at the White House to reassure them about his 2024 reelection campaign since its launch in April 2023. The meetings were arranged by Jeffrey Katzenberg, co-chairman of the reelection campaign, the Washington Post reported.

While every modern president has hosted supporters at the White House in similar ways, the White House Counsel office advised that taking supporters through the Oval Office could raise some legal troubles. After the raising of the concern, Biden stopped the tours.
