Sununu pushes Christie to drop out of 2024 race: ‘He helps Trump win’ if he stays in

Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) said supporting former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie‘s presidential ambitions will only help Republican front-runner Donald Trump secure the nomination.

Sununu endorsed former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley last month, denying Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) his support in the early-voting state. Sununu, who has warned that a second Trump term would come with chaos, is now pushing for a smaller field of Republican hopefuls.

“A vote for Christie is a vote for Donald Trump,” Sununu told RealClearPolitics. “There’s no question about it. Chris knows he can’t win.”

Sununu has been openly critical of Trump since the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol after endorsing his reelection campaign in 2020.

With two weeks until the New Hampshire primary, Sununu advised voters to steer clear of the long-shot candidate Christie.
