The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jose Guadalupe Menjivar-Alas, had been deported at least four times before he was arrested by the Broomfield Police Department on Dec. 15, according to a Monday report.
He is accused of crashing his Toyota Tundra into 47-year-old Melissa Powell’s Mazda CX-5 on Dec. 12, killing both Powell and her son, Riordan.
Police believe that alcohol and speed were involved in the crash.
After the incident, the illegal immigrant was taken to a nearby hospital before being discharged and booked into Broomfield County Jail, the report noted.
He faces charges of vehicular homicide from reckless driving, vehicular homicide due to DUI, and habitually offending traffic.
