OXON HILL, Maryland — Former University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines expressed optimism Friday that the push to accept gender theory and transgender ideology has gone too far and will be met with widespread backlash.
In an interview with the Washington Examiner at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday, Gaines, who gained notoriety last year after tying a biologically male swimmer, Lia Thomas, at the NCAA swimming championships, said she believed “the pendulum has swung too far.”

“There’s this systemic eradication of women that is being attempted by the Left, and it’s more than sports,” Gaines said. “They’re changing definitions.
