House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced on Wednesday that she was rejecting the two Republican picks to serve on the January 6 select committee: Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Jim Banks (R-IN).
“The unprecedented nature of January 6th demands this unprecedented decision,” Pelosi said of the decision to block Jordan and Banks, two loyal allies of former President Donald Trump who supported the baseless claims of election fraud that inspired the attack.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) nominated a total of five Republicans to serve on the committee. In addition to Banks and Jordan, the group includes Reps. Rodney Davis (IL), Kelly Armstrong (ND) and Troy E. Nehls (TX).
