‘I’m going to make them read that thing’: GOP launches resistance to COVID spending bill

A Republican opposed to President Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 spending bill plans to make the Senate clerk read the entire bill, which could take 10 hours.

Sen. Ron Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican and a fiscal conservative, said he’s opposed to the cost and scope of the spending package, which provides $350 billion to bail out state and local governments, among many other provisions.

Johnson told WISN 1130 much of the spending in the bill is unnecessary and said it could be whittled down to a package that spends about $400 million.
