‘Get out the Greek alphabet’: 2020 Atlantic hurricane season runs out of names as Tropical Storm Wilfred forms

The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season has run out of names, and in record time, with the formation of Tropical Storm Wilfred more than two months before the historic season reaches its official end.

Wilfred gained tropical storm strength on Friday morning in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, packing maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour. The low-pressure system is moving west-northwest at 17 mph and is forecast to retain tropical storm-strength throughout the weekend before weakening to a tropical depression early next week in open waters, according to the National Hurricane Center.
