Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield said Wednesday that face masks may be more effective at protecting against coronavirus transmission than a vaccine.
“We have clear scientific evidence [face masks] work,” Dr. Redfield told the Senate Appropriations Committee. “I might even go so far as to say that this face mask is more guaranteed to protect me against COVID than when I take a COVID vaccine.”
Redfield said vaccine distribution will not begin until mid-2021. Until then, masks are “our best defense” against the virus.
