Republican Idaho Gov. Brad Little signed legislation Tuesday that bans biological males from competing in sports against girls, making it the first state to pass such a law.
Little approved two different pieces of legislation that prohibit transgender individuals from changing the sex listed on their birth certificates and bans transgender girls and women from competing in women’s sports.
Some argue that the birth certificate measure ignores a 2018 federal court ruling that barring birth certificate changes is a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
