New York congressman will deploy with National Guard to help coronavirus efforts in Staten Island

As the number of those infected with the coronavirus rises sharply in the New York City area, one congressional lawmaker is exchanging his suit for an Army uniform.

Rep. Max Rose, a captain in the Army National Guard, will deploy on Wednesday as an operations officer, according to a statement released by his office on Tuesday.

“Over the past month, I have seen acts of incredible bravery and sacrifice by our first responders, nurses, doctors, and essential workers who never thought they’d be on the frontlines of a crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic,” the New York Democrat said.
