The brother of one of the world’s best gymnasts Simone Biles has been charged with murder after a shooting which left three people dead.
Tevin Biles-Thomas, 24, of Cleveland, was arrested on Thursday in Georgia over the New Year’s Eve incident.
Police and prosecutors said that an “uninvited group” entered an Airbnb rental property in Cleveland before an “altercation” between them and the invited guests.
The fight lead to a shooting which killed Delvante Johnson, 19, Toshaun Banks, 21, and Devaughn Gibson, 23.
Two other people were injured.
Biles-Thomas, who serves in the US army, faces counts of murder, voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault and perjury, according to prosecutors.
He is in custody in Hinesville, Georgia, until a hearing on 13 September.
Simone Biles, 22, is considered to be one of the best gymnasts in history.
She is a four-time gold medallist on the US gymnastics team and the most decorated American gymnast of all time.
Earlier this month, she hit headlines after becoming the first woman to land a triple-double in the floor event.
Over the last few days she has tweeted, indicating she needed space, although she did not specifically refer to the case.
She wrote on 29 August: “Let people assume incorrectly” and a day later, she tweeted: “Eating my feelings, don’t talk to me”.
Simone and her brother were raised in Cleveland by their grandparents.
