‘Thief’ reports his car being stolen as he ‘robs’ store across the road

An alleged thief in the US state of Washington reported his car was being stolen as he was robbing a store across the road, according to police.

The Kennewick Police Department said William Kelly called authorities on Sunday morning around 6am to say his 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck had been taken after he left the keys on the seat.

Police said a male riding a bike “discovered the keys and then threw his bike in the bed of the truck and fled”.

The force said a “new fact” emerged after obtaining video of the incident, which it published on its Facebook page.
