Why reporter covered Trump event in her wedding dress

A New York Times reporter ended up covering a presidential event in her wedding dress thanks to a last minute dress code note.

White House correspondent Annie Karni was due to travel to Japan with other reporters to cover Donald Trump’s visit.

However she found out a little too late that she would need a floor-length dress for one of the events.

She tweeted: “The guidance that we needed a floor-length gown for tonight’s imperial banquet came hours before my flight departed.

“I only own one floor-length gown.

“So, here I am, pooling a presidential event in my wedding dress.”

A picture of her and some of the other members of the press pack was shared online, showing Ms Karni’s white floor length dress, with the addition of a scarf.

Fellow Twitter users were quick to praise her for managing to pull off the look, with one joking “and they said you’d never wear it again”.
