A US father returned home to find his house had been broken into, but rather than ransacking the property the “burglars” had instead simply given his house a good clean.
Nate Roman, who lives in Marlborough, Massachusetts, found to his surprise that intruders had made the beds and vacuumed rugs at his home.
His son’s stuffed animals had been neatly organised and his toys had also been carefully stacked.
Every room had been cleaned except for the kitchen.
The toilet paper had even been folded into the shape of a rose.
Nothing was taken either.
Mr Roman, 44, wrote on Facebook: “It’s possible that I forgot to lock the back door, they didn’t break anything while entering.
“No notes, no creepy arrangements or anything.
“My best theory at this point is that a housekeeping service accidentally went to the wrong address.”
Mr Roman said he had forgotten, as usual, to set his home alarm and he did not have any security camera footage to help him solve the mystery.
He told Boston 25 News that his alarm system did track how many times the door opened and closed, however, meaning he knows that the intruders probably spent around an hour and a half in his home.
But the only witness? His pet lizard.
Police were just as bemused.
Sergeant Daniel Campbell told the Boston Globe that the department had not heard of similar episodes and there are no suspects.
